This homepage is for people which are interested in historical information about the Hanoverian which fought together with British, Dutch, Brunswickers, Belgians, and Nassauer at Waterloo. But however the main focus lies on the militia battalion Muenden which is motivated by an ancestor who was member of this battalion.
In the following period as many available sources as possible will be published which will give more information about life of the members of that battalion. Beside the military event the everyday life of the soldiers as well the following fate will be of interest and maybe the influence of the battle on their lives. Beside the public record office Hanover the city archive Göttingen are the main sources as well as online archives and publications from historian and contemporary witnesses.

Unfortunately the muster roll doesn't exist anymore. The only list of all members the militia battalion can only be found in the so called PAY BOOK. Theses PAY BOOKs were created, in order to document the disbursement of the prize money after the battle of Waterloo. In the following this list with all entries, like e.g. ranks, possible wounds or dead as well as the height of the disbursed prize money with the respective date. In the following article an excerpt of the report of the lieutenant colonel Charras “History of the Campaign of 1815, Waterloo” will be given. The special attention is here also given to the left side of the allied army, on which the militia battalion Muenden stood. The used book is the first edition in German language of 1858, issued by the publishing house Rudolf Kuntze, Dresden. Unfortunately I didn't found an English edition of this book till now. Therefore I'm trying to make a translation myself. If someone has an English edition of the book that can be shared, please contact me.
The excerpt begins with the twelfth chapter, the description of the beginning of the fights at Waterloo (pages 255 to 293). Due to the fact that I'm not a professional translator, the translation may use not the correct terms but it's difficult to find a correct wording for the old phrasing which is also not anymore used in German today.

In the following a first listing of the members of the battalion which were wounded or dead in June of 1815 will be given, with place of birth and whereabouts after the battle.
A very impressing picture of John Heaviside Clark gives an impression over the battleground thereafter, apart from all glorification of heroism and fight.
